There are red flags galore surrounding Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. He only played in three games in his freshman season due to back surgery, and recently freaked out front offices across the NBA because of a strained hip/back spasms before a scheduled workout last week. But hey, no need to fret about MPJr.’s health — if you ask him, whoever selects him in Thursday’s draft is getting a special mix of Kevin Durant, Giannis, and Tracy McGrady.
He compared himself to that elite trio while speaking with CBS Sports’ Damon Amendolara Monday:
Is there any validity to MPJr’s wild self comps? Who knows! Again, no one has seen this guy play meaningful basketball since his high school days. That being said, we can’t knock the guy for selling the hell out of himself as the best player in this draft.
Who takes the plunge with MPJr. remains a mystery. Some mocks have him going as high as No. 2 to the Sacramento Kings, which would be classic, while others have him falling as low to seven to the Chicago Bulls.
