Remeber when “Coed Naked [Fishing…Golfing…Scuba Diving…]” shirts were pretty much the craziest thing you’d ever seen on a t-shirt? Just the word naked alone made some of us wonder if it was OK to wear in public. Of course the shirts were dumb and innocent. The natural evolution from there, though, at a Creighton bar was to come up with a shirt that would be based on a sign that The Blue Jay Bar was/is proud of. Ownership turned it into a t-shirt. Here it is:
Saw this today at the @BluejayMBB game. Shame on the @Bluejaybar for making rape culture a joke. #RapeIsNotATaglinepic.twitter.com/Yz0C9Xej9v

That tweet from Saturday’s game against Xavier eventually got picked up by bigger outlets and led to the Blue Jay Bar in Omaha freaking out and killing their social media presence, only to reverse course, reestablish the social media sites and issue a statement about the shirts.
“The Blue Jay Bar would like to apologize to Creighton, their students and alumni, Blue Jay fans and others hurt by words appearing on a T-shirt, worn by a student at Saturday’s game. The shirt originated from a sign that had been in the Jay since the 90s. It was removed upon new ownership several years ago. The shirts were a terrible mistake and we urge the few people who have this shirt to return it and we will give you your money back.
“We take this issue very seriously and continue to educate our staff. The safety of our customers is our top priority. We are working on turning this terrible event into a source for positive awareness to help those who have been affected.”
Key words: “removed upon new ownership several years ago.” It’s a bad look when you try to imply that some other guys were responsible for the “stolen virginity” shirts, especially when you were promoting the shirts just a couple weeks ago. Maybe just say that you’re assholes and that putting the slogan on a shirt was a real asshole thing to do. Man up a little bit. The sign wasn’t removed until you got called out. Be big boys and own it.
.@Bluejaybar so you’re telling me you don’t have this in your establishment anymore with new management? 😒 pic.twitter.com/EOHJWtd8lX

.@Bluejaybar Your apology seems to imply the shirts weren’t recently sold. Please explain this post on FB from Feb. pic.twitter.com/9RAXtGzrY6
