We now know, via Axios, that Golden State Warriors part owner Mark Stevens was the fan who pushed Kyle Lowry as Lowry launched himself into the court side seats for a loose ball during Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Somehow Lowry contained his emotions as Stevens pushed him in a way that definitely meant he wanted to be a tough guy in the moment.
Speaking with Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter after the game, Lowry said, “The fans have a place; we love our fans,” Lowry told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt. “But fans like that shouldn’t be allowed to be in there, because it’s not right. I can’t do nothing to protect myself. But the league does a good job, and hopefully they ban him from all NBA games forever.”
Banned forever. Sounds good to me. A part owner should know better, right?
Sources say the league and team are investigating. Stevens, as well as NBA and Warriors representatives were not immediately available for comment.
Stevens joined the Warriors ownership team in 2013, when Vivek Ranadive bought a stake in the Sacramento Kings and was forced to divest his share of the Warriors.
According to a 2013 NBA.com post, it’s unclear how much ownership Stevens controls, but he controls enough to sit in those seats during Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
“Mark will prove to be a tremendous asset to our organization as we strive to become one of the model franchises in professional sports,” said Guber. “We’ve managed to build a strong and well-rounded ownership group in which each individual contributes to our success, and Mark is no exception. He’s an ideal fit.”
Forbes says Mark is worth $2.3 billion. His Warriors bio page isn’t working.
